Shop owner robbed at gunpoint in Alex

An Ethiopian national, Mr. Wodie Etaded (36), residing at 09-7th Alexandra Avenue, was robbed of money, airtime, groceries and mobile phones.

It is alleged that he was asleep in the store when he was awakened by a loud bang on the store wall.

The incident happened on the 12 May around 2 am.

According to Alex police spokesperson, Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, Etaded jumped out of bed when he noticed three unknown African men inside the store.

“He was pointed with a firearm and money was demanded from him. R5000. 00 cash, airtime assortment valued at R2000.00, two mobile phones, Samsung R170.00, nokia worth R400.00 and some foodstuffs were taken from the shop,” said Mbatha.

Mbatha said no fire had been fired and no injuries were reported.
