The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Gauteng team has today, 24 June 2021, attended the post mortem in Ermelo Provincial Hospital, Mpumalanga.

This is after a 29-year-man was allegedly beaten by the Jeppe Police Station officers in front of his girlfriend and his brother on 12 June 2021.

According to the statement issued by the IPID, the deceased’s brother took the video and pics while the policemen assaulted him.

“They also took the registration number of the vehicle, which has been confirmed to be from the Jeppe Tracing Team.

“The deceased was arrested for being in possession of drugs and resisting arrest by Jeppe Police Officers.

“This matter was not enrolled in court and the deceased was released. His girlfriend took him to hospital (not provided) and was later transferred to hospital in Mpumalanga where he passed away,” reveals the statement.

The case was not opened as the deceased’s girlfriend was served by one of the police officers who allegedly assaulted her boyfriend. He allegedly took out a J88 form from the girlfriend, destroyed it and chased her away.

“IPID continues with the investigation of this case.”
