Gauteng traffic police officer attached to the Special Patrol Unit foiled a suspected cash-in-transit robbery at Greenstone Mall this morning, 25 June 2021.

According to Sello Maremane, Gauteng Traffic Police Spokesperson, the officer was patrolling on the R25 Road next to Greenstone Mall in Edenvale when he was approached by a member of the public who tipped him of the crime.

According to Maremane, the officer went to the mall and, upon his arrival, a shootout was launched by robbers.

He said upon further inspection, the officer noticed that a cash-in- transit van belonging to Cash solutions was caused to be involved in an accident with a Grey BMW.

The officer found the Grey BMW and a Lexus suspected to be used by the thugs.

Police officers found explosives in the BMW, reportedly used for cash-in-transit robberies.

The thugs are still at large, and the investigation continues at this stage. The Gauteng Traffic Police has applauded the officer’s bravery.

“The Gauteng Traffic Police would like to commend the officer for stopping the cash in transit suspects in their tracks to commit robbery in Greenstone. This demonstrates our unwavering zeal to root out crime in the province,” said Maremane.

“The Gauteng Traffic Police appeal to the members of the public who might have information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact their nearest police station.

“Lastly, we appeal to the members of the public not to try and apprehend these criminals when spotted as they are dangerous,” added Maremane.
