It has been a heated battle between residents of Vezinyawo and Councillor Malema.

The most favored African National Congress ward 116 councillor, Adolf Marema, said in the past week, he has been fighting illegal land invaders occupying government spaces in his ward.

Marema told the Alex Reporter that in the past two weeks he had stopped people trying to seize land in Vezinyawo.

Marema said some men from 18th Avenue have also tried to invade the vacant space at 24-18th Avenue.

“Recently, we went there with the metro police. After I addressed them, we all dispersed.

“Last weekend, they started over and I stopped them. After JMPD left, I got approached by a guy who promised to beat me up.

“He came back about three times and we tried to talk to him, but he insisted on fighting with me.

“The fourth time he came, he started assaulting me. The man I was with tried to stop him, but he was extremely violent. He then threw bricks at us and said he wanted me dead,” Marema said.

The visibly unshaken Marema said that when the community and his friends realized, he was being attacked, they went out to save him.

“They went to him to reason with his father, but he did not appear interested in chastening his son.

“When I returned home, I met the guy and this time, most of my friends were with me. All he did was throw stones at us.

“Then the 17th Avenue community beat him with almost everything they laid their hands on until he lost part of his ear.

“He now claims that it was me who assaulted him, shot him, and organized people to kill him.”

Marema who spends most of his time in his community and helping people in his ward and beyond said that the members of the community and friends who were around were the ones who defended him from the man who acted like crazy.

“The case was rejected and when he lost in court, he addressed Alex FM. I phoned Alex FM to request a right of reply.

The group allegedly threatened to burn down Marema’s home.

He is now under police guard, following the threat.
