When the City Power , accompanied by the police, cut off illegal connection, furious residents retaliated with a strike to prevent more cuts from taking place.
They blockaded streets with burning tyres.
This after City Power conducted an unannounced operation to cut off illegal connections in Riverpark Alexandra this morning from 5am
According to Isaac Mangena, spokesperson for City Power, the area has seen an increase in illegal connections which caused overloading of the network.
“Previous efforts to cut off were abandoned after the community became too hostile,”said Mangena.
