44 year jail sentence for Dube Hostel thug who murdered Alexandra businessman

A 31-year-old man was sentenced to 44 years in prison on charges of murder, attempted murder and burglary.

The murder was carried out on March 22, 2019.

According to Alexandra Police spokesperson, Sergeant Simphiwe Mbatha, Percy Mcube, a resident of the Dube Hostel, in Soweto, went to a liquor store at 17-8th Avenue in Alexandra and committed the crimes.

Mbatha said Mcube (originally from Ladysmith, KZN) and his three heavily armed accomplices fired twice on the owner of the liquor store and his assistant.

“They took money and liquor and ran away.

“The owner died immediately, whilst his assistant survived.

“Three thugs managed to escape,” said Mbatha.

The investigating officer, who traced Mcube, Detective Sergeant Masomane, was highly commended for his hard work, commitment, professionalism and for removing the culprit from the community.

Mbatha said the punishment satisfied the station management, including the station commander, Brigadier Lindiwe Victoria Magudulela.

Mcube was given  twenty (12) years imprisonment for murder; twelve (12) years for attempted murder and twelve (12) years for robbery (12), totaling 44 years of direct imprisonment.

“Our station Commander appreciates the investigating officer’s hard work and she encourages all members to set an example in fighting crime to make Alexandra a crime-free zone,” said Mbatha.
