The Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy secretary general, Meshe Hebana, said party leadership were left shocked by the brutal murder of prophet Dwayne Gordon during a church service on Friday.

He urged the police to make necessary arrests as soon as possible “We have received a credible lead that may prove useful for the investigation, but cannot speak on details of this at this stage as it may compromise the case.

“We have, however, contacted the authorities in the interest of justice being executed swiftly,” said Habana.

Habana said PA president Gayton McKenzie had personally offered a reward in the matter.

” We have also been in touch with the family and the other shooting victim, pastor Enrico Mosavel, to extend our condolences and support. Gang violence has already turned our streets into blood baths.

“We cannot allow our churches to become war zones too.”

Gordon was shot dead inside a church in Newlands, Joburg during a church service. Three other people were wounded.

The suspects robbed church goers of their cellphones and other belongings. The police in Gauteng confirmed.

Gordon, who was a guest preacher at Eagles Christian Centre in Newlands, was shot three times when six men stormed the church and opened fire on members.

A live stream of the shooting was widely shared on social media where people can be heard screaming.
