An ANC activist and pastor Banele Sangcozi said they had to take a decision as an ANC to hold prayer across Gauteng province.

“So every township in Gauteng, there’s this kind of prayer that’s is taking place.

“You would have noticed that in the past few weeks, there had been a random shooting. So we have called upon the church to pray for peace and stability.”

Sangcozi  quoted the book of 2 Chronicles 7:14 that says ‘If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven , will forgive their sins and will heal their land.’

“So this is the time when we are calling unto God to be able to intervene.  Because there’s no amount of policing that can solve our crime entirely.

“But through prayer, the criminals can be exposed  and arrested.  We can only pray for the prevention of crime, because before it manifests, it first starts in the spirit.”

Sangcozi said that when the community addresses spiritual matters, it will be able to solve most of the problems, if not all of them.

“We know this is a spiritual battle that’s planned or perpetuated to operate everywhere.

“We need to agree on a 7 day prayer, that each and every hour, there’s someone praying in Alex.

“If we can do it for the whole year, it would be great. We need a full time spiritual engagement.

“There’s a verse in the bible that says God sought for someone to stand in the gap and pray.

“But there was no one. When people are shying away from prayers, where are going? Is the society still reliant on God? Perhaps they are not because they are oppressed.

“But if those that are able to stand in the gap and pray, those who are oppressed can be liberated.”

Similar prayer was also conducted by the Alex  youth desk
