“I would like to invite and encourage everyone to make their way to Soweto Theatre on the 05th November 2022
where I will be recording my first live DVD.

“Let’s all meet there and praise the name of the Lord,” said Rhengu Israel Baloyi.

Rhengu the Psalmist, as Baloyi is affectionately known in the musical cycle, said it was time for him to bless the world with his own album.

“Yooo! I feel so excited to finally be recording my own album after more than 17 years doing gospel music without an album.

“This is my first born in the industry and I hope it will launch me deeper in the gospel industry,” he tells Mashamba Media.

The Psalmist says that the recording is more than just music!

“From the recording, expect the move of God and His presence; healing and deliverance,” he said, adding that the project is comprised of a 9 piece uncle, and 6 vocalists.

The Psalmist is no stranger to live recording. He recently produced the Impact House Ministries album.

In this project, he also collaborated with Omega Khunou ,doing a Xitsonga Hymn “Ahi Khenseni Yehovha” which is making waves in the gospel market.

He was ten years old when he began singing at a Sunday school in Muchipisi Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM).

His friend, Mr Amukelani Mashimbye, used to have musical instruments made from recycable items ( which they used to play and render items at Sunday School).

“Then my uncle, Pastor Murhimuni Pat Maluleke discovered my gift and took me to play for Malamulele AFM Central under the leadership of Bishop GF Maluleke.

“That’s where I was introduced to playing different musical instruments and singing professionally,” he says.

The Malamulele AFM was arguably the only church round with the best band and singers.

It is the same AFM where Gama Mathonsi, who plays keys for Bishop Benjamin Dube, was mentoring some members of the group.

The contemporary Gospel singer loves singing hymns in different languages.

He believes that gospel music chose him. ” I minister through gospel music, because it carries power to heal and deliver.”

The Psalmist is a born again Christian , a husband to Malerato Baloyi and a father. He is the third born to Mr and Mrs Baloyi.

He was born and raised in Muchipisi village under Collins Chabane municipality in Malamulele.

His advice is: “To anyone who has a talent and is on the verge of losing hope, know that your time is coming.

“Just keep on doing what you are called or gifted to do. When the time is right God is going to lift you up.

“To all Gospel worship leaders, my advice to you would be, let us accept Jesus as our personal saviour and let Christ be the standard of our ministry.

“Let us remember that singing and playing alone is not enough worship, but how we live (life style) is a true worship.”
