Five male suspects alleged to be involved in multiple robberies around the Johannesburg Inner City were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Operations officers.

The thugs were arrested on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and unlawful possession of state property in Hillbrow.

JMPD spokesperson, Xolani Fihla said on Wednesday 27 July 2022, whilst conducting Buya Mthetho (undercover crime prevention patrols) around the Wanderers Taxi Rank, officers received information of suspects involved in multiple robberies around the Johannesburg CBD.

“Upon arrival at the given location in Hillbrow, a security guard was found at the premises. He led the officers to the flat and they approached the identified room where the suspects reside.

“Two males were found and the room was searched. Several cellphones, wallets, ID documents, military uniform and brand new shoes which the suspects could not account for, were recovered by the officers,” said Fihla.

Fihla said the suspects as well as the security guard were arrested as it was found that both men and security lived together.

The officers were later taken to the basement of the building where two other accomplices live, said Fihla.

“On arrival, officers found the two male suspects and searched the room. More cellphones, wallets, ID documents and registration plates were recovered.

“When verified one of the registration plates tested positive on a Blue Renault which was hijacked in Chatsworth. Both male suspects were also arrested.

“All the suspects were detained at Hillbrow SAPS. When profiled it was found that the suspects have previous and pending cases ranging from robbery, murder, hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearms,” said Fihla.
