Fannie Masilela says he was walking alone at 6th Rooth around 19:49 in the evening recently when he saw two boys standing by.

When they saw him coming, they ran over him and pointed him with a gun.

“And a fight broke out between us. I didn’t wanna give them anything. The other dude told the other guy to shoot me.

“A Gunshot was fired and a bullet penetrated my thigh all the way through out, but without hitting major organs.

“I was rushed to Masakhane and after two hours an Ambulance took me to Charlotte Maxeke Hospital. But I am discharged now,” said Masilela a Coordinator for Moja Love.

Masilela, who appeared on Muvhango and Generations as the background actor, said as the incident occurred, he was full of anger.

“I thought he was gonna shoot again. They took my phone, car keys, my cap and R20.”

However, he said the incident didn’t affect him much “because I was born in a township. I’ve seen and experienced more than what I’ve experienced that night, except that the boys had a gun to shoot me”.

“After he shot me, I called the name of Jesus Christ. It could have been worse. It’s only Jesus Christ who saved me.

“And surprisingly, a week before I got shot, I met a crazy guy at John Brandt who told me to pray, saying my days of living were almost over. And I reprimanded him,” he said.

Masilela said crime is a grave for thugs, warning them not to be proud of having done it successfully!

“All I know is that a curse is upon those who steal, rob and kill people and sooner or later the angel of death will visit them and hell is waiting for them.”

He said Alexandra as a whole, there lies beneath it a darker underbelly.

“The high rate of crime strikes a pessimistic tone, supposing that this cycle of robbery and murder may never end.

“Until this culture changes, there will likely be plenty more stories like those we’ve heard. And patrollers must be aware that criminals attend those meetings, and they take the information to their evil friends.

“In 2019 Bheki Cele said cops must shoot to kill, and the society lashed at him, saying he is inhumane, unconscious, and cold hearted. They defended criminals, thats why we have cops not interfering much and would choose to come after the criminals have fled the scene.

“They don’t want to risk their lives at being shot at first when they also can use their guns. But the law doesn’t grant them enough protection,” said the author who is also a businessman.
