1st Annual Alexandra Career Youth Expo brought learners together

An educational event of its kinds was held at
Alexandra Stadium recently.

 

The Alexandra Parliamentary Constituency Office and Gauteng Legislature under the leadership of members of parliament Sizakele Nkosi Malobane and Hein April, said the event was held in response to the burden of unemployment that being carried by the Alexandra youth.

 

Nkosi-Malobane said the Career Youth Expo aimed to introduce the youth to a broad spectrum of career options and opportunities while imparting valuable knowledge and practical skills that will assist them on their path to employment.

 

According to her, the event was intended to broaden horizons, encourage and inspire youth to reimagine about their future.

 

The exhibition covered a wide range of career opportunities in various sectors and industries.

 

This was an enriching experience for learners in grades 10 to 12 from Alexandra Township.

 

The following Alexandra High Schools (approximately 2,000 learners ) were invited to attend the event:

 

• Alexandra High School
• Realogile High School
• Kwa Bhekilanga High School
• Marlboro Combine High School
• East Bank High School
• Minerva Secondary School

 

The expo further provided a platform for all stakeholders to engage with the Alexandra youth and provide an excellent networking opportunity to private, public-sector companies and higher learning institutions to exchange valuable developmental concepts to assist the youth with skills and information to access employment and opportunities in Gauteng.

 

“This is the first Career Youth Expo in Alexandra on this large scale. We wanted learners to walk away with a sense of knowing that services and scholarships are available, and they can have access to them.

 

“We also wanted the learners to discover the different career paths that they can pursue that they might not be aware of,” Nkosi-Malobane said.

 

The 1st Annual Career Expo was held in partnership with Amakhaphithal and other stakeholders.
