An Avanza passenger was shot and wounded at 6th Ruth Street, Alexandra, allegedly by one of the most feared thugs in the area, as he tried to shoot the driver.
The incident occurred this morning on May 24, 2021.
Unfortunately, the woman was reported dead on arrival at the hospital.
Shocked and furious drivers blocked the streets at Roosevelt and Ruth with their vehicles.
They then went and looked for the suspects who are alleged to be responsible for the crime, whereby drivers are targets.
“A young girl told me where one of the hooligans lived because the gang was known. I then mobilized the angry drivers after I was pointed at with a gun.
“After searching around, we found one of them. We took care of him until he was dead on the spot,” one source said.
When Alex Reporter’s team arrived on the scene, the community was already gathered around, looking at the dead body of the man.
There was no police visibility and some drivers could be heard saying, “That will send a strong message to others. We’ve done the work. We are fed up with the crime.”
Our source said the drivers were robbed when they passed by the hotspot.
“Some of us have chosen not to use this area because robbery is common. Some of our drivers were killed, while others were robbed of their vehicles and valuables.
Police spokesperson Simphiwe Mbatha had not been approached for comment at the time of publication.
