The Gauteng Education MEC, Mr Panyaza Lesufi is devastated by the death of a 50 year old female deputy principal of Phomolong Secondary School in Tembisa, who was allegedly shot dead on Friday, 21 January 2022.

 

Miss Ngendane is believed to have been gunned down by a learner and his accomplices near the school on Friday afternoon.

It is alleged Ngendane who taught geography and mathematics at the school was gunned down after the disgruntled learner failed matric.

 

According to the information at our disposal, the incident occurred in the afternoon when she was driving out of school.

The learner and his two accomplices suddenly appeared and reportedly fired at her three times from the passenger’s window.

 

Subsequently, she got out of her car trying to escape the hail of bullets, but fell right beside the car.

 

One of the armed men allegedly fired twice at her while she was down, and they fled the scene without taking anything from her.

 

Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of this deadly incident.

 

“Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist apprehend the suspects to please call the nearest police station or crime stop on 08600 10111.

 

“Information can also be given anonymously via MySAPS App that can be downloaded from any smartphone.
At this stage, police could not confirm the motive behind the shooting.

 

“The motive for the murder cannot be confirmed at this stage. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were three and driving in a white vehicle,” said the Gauteng SAPS spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.

 

Lesufi said the department’s Psycho-Social Unit will visit the school on Monday, 24 January 2022, to conduct counselling and support to all those affected by this incident.

 

He described her as a hardworking, dedicated and committed teacher who was also loved by many at school and community.

 

“We sincerely wish to convey our deepest condolences to the family and the entire school community.

 

“Indeed, the motive of this level of cruelty is unknown, but I’m comforted that this case has been taken over by the Provincial SAPS and as such we are adamant that the perpetrators will be brought to justice,” said Lesufi.

 

Lesufi is scheduled to visit the school on Monday at 09h00 AM to further verify reports circulating on social media regarding this incident.

 

After visiting the school, he will proceed to visit the deputy principal’s family to convey his condolences.
