Maisha Molepo Foundation (MMF) in collaboration with Alex Masters Soccer Leagues (AMSL) hosted a soccer tournament that brought families and soccer lovers together in Alexandra recently.

According to the MMF Director, Mr. Maisha Molepo, the tournament was to recognize individuals who contributed to the development of football in the region and to recognize talent within the community at large.

Molepo stated that an annual soccer tournament in the township areas keeps both youth and adults occupied and out of trouble.

He said the tournament this year was to honour people like Mr. John Mnisi, the late Mr. Tello Selepe, Mr. Jeffrey, and Thinane, who all served as administrators in the field of football development.

Victoria Ground and Alexandra Stadium served as the venues for the tournament.

On October 8th, 2023 at Alex Stadium, the following teams made it to the finals: TUBATSE LADIES (2) VS BLU RAYCON (1), UNDER 19 WESTERN BOYS FC (3) VS MBOKANE FC (1), MASTERS LOSR FINALS TSUTSUMANI FC (5) VS LIVERPOOL FC (3), MASTERS FINALS CHIVAS FC (2) VS RIVERPARK FC (1).

All finalists were given new soccer kits, gold medals, and trophies, while the runners-up were given new soccer kits and silver medals. Masters 3rd prize received new soccer kit and bronze medals and Masters 4th prize received new soccer kit.

“We also donated two new soccer kit to Rangers FC and Roosevelt FC.” Molepo stated that a total of 10 soccer kits were given on the day, but three were still outstanding for the following teams in honor of the three administrators: BLUE ACES FC, SANTOS FC, and ZENZELENI FC.

He said a total of 13 soccer kits were earmarked to be provided by MMF.
Molepo said they also catered for more than 500 people on the day, which consisted of players, coaches, referees, administrators from the AMSL board, and spectators.

“A very big thank to my wife under her company Banyana Dirang Trading enterprise who went all out to make this happen. Not forgetting the people who worked with her. A great thank you to Shosholoza under Director Mr. George Moyo for donating 10 soccer boots on the day. We would like to thank the AMSL executive, the governance board, and all teams under AMSL for making this event possible under difficult conditions.

“To our local media Alex FM, we also want to express our gratitude for always being there for us and for informing the community about this event. Also, our gratitude goes to the City of Joburg for providing us with their facility while we had to deal with challenges from individual officials.

“A very big thank you to our funders, BETABETTS. Without them, this event wouldn’t have been successful. A very big thanks to all our medical staff, security personnel, and marshalls.

“To all people who attended the event, you are all winners at the end of the day. Your presence and behavior made this event successful because no incidents were reported on the day.

“That’s why you are the winners of the tournament. I thank you all once again with hope that this event will become bigger in the future years,” Molepo said.
