Football legend and Nedbank Cup 2023 ambassador, Pitso Mosimane, tells the story of how he could’ve pursued another career but, based on different circumstances and decisions, he has become one of the most respected coaches in South Africa.

As part of the 2023 Nedbank Cup (currently moving into the quarter-finals), Mosimane and former players Teko Modise, Daine Klate, Stanton Fredericks and current player Siphiwe Tshabalala, shared their stories to inspire others regarding the importance of small decisions.

The Nedbank Cup contributes to the development of domestic soccer by providing amateur teams with an opportunity to compete against top-tier teams.

And this year, the tournament focuses on the sentiment that small, everyday choices can have a significant impact on our lives.

Mosimane says that being born into a football family and having people who believe in him laid the foundation to help him build his legacy and focus on football development in South Africa.

“Being a coach is about dedication, leadership, communication, and making the right decisions. Working with Nedbank has enabled me to fulfil my passion and helped people make the right decisions.”

Khensani Nobanda, Group Executive for Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Nedbank, says that the bank has a vested interest in the prosperity of its clients and the nation at large.

“In business and in our personal lives we are faced with making various decisions and choices that ultimately shape our lives today and in the future. Like these footballing legends, we aim to empower people to make better decisions today – decisions that will be best for their future.”

The Nedbank Cup is South Africa’s leading knockout football competition and this year marks a 16-year partnership between Nedbank and the Premier Soccer League.

With only eight teams remaining, the quarter-finals taking place on 15 and 16 April 2023 are guaranteed to keep South African fans at the edge of their seat.

Mosimane adds that he always tells his players not to be afraid of making decisions to get to the next level. “It’s important to invest in our careers and future, to nurture and raise our children and to teach them the value of money. And managing your finances isn’t a decision that you should make alone.”
