Shocking Alex crime highlights

CRIME ONE: Housebreaking

 

Two unknown black men wearing balaclava, pushed open the door and entered the house at 3-9th Avenue and robbed a 28-year-old woman.

 

According to Alex police spokesperson , Simphiwe Mbatha, one of the thugs pointed at Katlego Masebe with a firearm.

 

“His accomplice took two Samsung mobile phones, wristwatch, internal Wi-Fi, a handbag and a rechargeable charger, all valued at about R 8000,00,” said Mbatha.

 

The incident occurred around 4:00 in the morning on May 27, while Masebe was preparing for work.

 

The suspects are not known and still have not been arrested.

 

Mbatha said Masebe had gone out to the bathroom to relieve herself.

 

“When she came back inside the house, she didn’t close the door properly as she was busy getting ready for work,” Mbatha said.

 

CRIME TWO: Carjacking

 

A 30-year-old African, residing in Yeoville, alleges that he was driving a white Toyota Quantum when he was stopped by three black men.

 

The incident occurred on May 24 at about 3:30pm at 20th Avenue and London Road in Alexandra.

 

The thugs apparently demanded to be dropped off at Tsutsumani in Alexandra.

 

When he approached the robots in Lennin, he was asked, at gunpoint, to go directly to the London off ramp, where he was told to stop the car immediately.

 

One of them jumped in the driver’s seat and drove the car to Katlehong where the victim was left.

 

“They took his LG mobile phone and the car was later found in Jeppe by the tracking unit,” Mbatha stated.

 

CRIME THREE: Carjacking

 

Mbatha said Kirsten Osward, a resident of Midrand alleged that he was driving his white NP200 Nissan bakkie Registrations number FXT 798 FS at Tsutsumani Alexandra after dropping his colleague.

 

At the corner of Lenin and Laduma streets, he slowed down and stopped as he saw a man moving very slowly crossing the road.

 

“This man produced a gun and ordered Osward to get out, which he did. After that, two other males rushed in.

 

“One of them searched him and took his black Huawei P Smart phone and a wallet containing his bank cards, driving license, credit cards and a renewal proof of his license,” said Mbatha.

 

Mbatha said the thugs all jumped in the vehicle and left with the car.

 

The car is worth R100,000 and has a tracking device. A passer-by helped him by returning him to his colleague who accompanied him to the police station.

 

CRIME FOUR : Business robbery

A 25-year-old man, Thomase Kebede, a resident at 120-17 Avenue, reportedly slept in his shop when he heard a disturbing noise.

Mbatha said that when Kebede examined what was going on, he saw four men with firearms.

“They pointed him with firearms and demanded cash, airtime and cigarettes. He then stood up and gave them R4000 cash.

“They also took air time and cigarettes valued at R1000 and then they left. When he investigated, he noticed that they managed to get in by smashing the wall.”
