Dumisani Nkosi, chairman of the Unemployed Seeking Employment and one of the leaders of Alex Operation Fiyela (Dudula Movement ) has been discharged from hospital.

Nkosi was admitted at Helen Joseph Hospital after he was allegedly shot together with eleven others, according to the initial report by Scrolla.Africa, by shopkeepers believed to be foreign nationals.

According to spokesperson for Dudula Movement , Agness Malatjie, the pregnant woman who was shot was not in a worse condition.

If the police hadn’t arrived in time, the situation could have been far worse as some shop owners were furious.

“Fortunately enough the police managed to disarm all 3 of them, but one fled away as there were 4 of them shooting. It’s true that we were not armed in any shape or form, hence we asked to be assisted by the SAPS.

“I want these foreigners to know that, their shootings and retaliation towards us will not stop us from fighting for our township. And we will still continue with our peaceful operation as per agreement with all law enforcements.

“Even if they kill us, we are prepared to die for our country and township.
And to add on, WE ARE NOT XENOPHOBIC! Although we are being killed by foreign nationals,” Malatjie stressed.

The shootings are likely to intensify tensions around foreigners in Alex. The Dudula Movement Alexandra branch has vowed to remove all foreigners, even those who are there legally.

Meanwhile, Dudula representatives allege the shooting on Monday was carried out by foreign shop owners.

Dudula Alexandra branch spokeswoman Agnes Malatjie said “When the shots were fired towards us, we all ran for cover. “While running, I tripped and fell.

” A heavily pregnant woman fell on top of me soon after she had been shot in the head. It was so chaotic that we don’t even know how many people got shot at. The number of injured people could be more,” she said.

Malatjie blamed foreign business owners in the mall for the shooting. She said police managed to arrest three people and one alleged assailant escaped.

It remains unclear why the shopkeepers opened fire – whether they perceived an imminent threat to their lives. The Dudula movement has been trying to shut down what they say are businesses owned by illegal immigrants.

But they also make broader threats against all foreigners – not just illegal immigrants.

“We will not stop conducting our daily operations,” Malatjie said, adding: “We will continue until we see Pan Africa is clean of foreigners and locals reclaim their land. This is our land and we say Alex for Alexandrians.”

Gauteng provincial police have confirmed the shooting.
Spokeswoman Brigadier Brenda Muridili said two people were shot and others injured. “Police have arrested three people in connection with the shooting,” she said.

At the weekend, Malatjie vowed that the Dudula branch’s Operation Fiyela would remove all foreigners with or without documents.

“As long as you are not a South African, we’ll remove you from operating a business in Alex,” she told Scrolla.Africa on Sunday.

Over the weekend other parts of Gauteng were rocked with similar Dudula clashes.
