Sanele Moyakhe (31) has been in the art business for 8 years.

She joined the industry at the age of 24. This happened after she was inspired by many artists, such as Sindi Dlathu, Vathiswa Ndara Shoki, among others.

Sanele hails from the Eastern Cape, Queenstown ELinge but currently resides in Alex.

“I like art from the bottom of my heart. I am an actor, writer, singer, director and a poet.

“I have performed at numerous venues in and around South Africa. I have performed at the Soweto Theatre, the Joburg Theatre, Unisa, the Mandela Museum in Mthatha Easter, the Grahamstown Arts Festival and many other places like schools and prisons,” she told Alex Reporter with pride.

Her dream is to see herself in a permanent role in one of the major TV productions.

She started doing art at Alex in a company called Alexandra Youth In Action.

The institution has given her the opportunity to go and study at Wits University.

“Those at the Joburg Theatre are also doing this course. This is to help the youths get arts qualifications.”

Sanele completed her three years in Applied Performance Art and Arts Management at Wits.

“I’m in the process of graduating. I also directed two theatre shows: The key and Iphixiphixi. I am currently working on the new show, called ‘Are We Free? ‘ I wrote and directed it. In most of the plays I played and always play the lead role.”

She says her dream is to own her own theatre company where she can train and teach most underprivileged people.

“I want to transfer all the knowledge I’ve gained to others, and I also want to travel the world, showcasing my talent and inspiring others,” Sanele said.

She was raised by a single mother in an impoverished environment and it made her grow up with love.

“I love people. I know what it’s like not having what other kids have, and that’s why I want to help other kids. There are many things I can say about myself and if I had to write them all down, it would take me all day,” she laughs.

Sanele has an important message for the youths

“Young people must be focused on their dreams. It is important for them to know that education is the key. They must always remember why they are here and they need to remember it’s hard out there. But they must push very hard and never give up on anything that they want to achieve.”
