I was at the fruitless meeting, thinking about how to escape because the conversation with this client was terribly annoying!
Suddenly, this young acoustic guitarist appeared from nowhere, playing and singing while walking on Alex street.
A few minutes after our chat, he told me his name was Matlatse, The Vocalist.
This boy, did not follow the protocol of being on the waiting list for an interview, as most people do; we just spoke as I was eager to publish his talent as soon as possible!
At age 20, Mahlatse Lucky Chokoe, nicknamed Nkosi, has an abnormal gift. And he has been playing guitar for 1 month and 3 weeks, but does what those who have 20 years of experience cannot do!
When asked who his guitarist mentor was, he said, “I have no mentor. I learned how to play guitar through videos and research.”
The resident at 9th Avenue has already worked with musos such as Da Era, Gazillicious group, Viper fam group, Manqezi, to name a few.
Some singles to his credit are Utaqiwe, Phumelela, Ramaphosa, all produced by Sonnyphonicx records.
The boy usually plays and sings on the streets in his township.
“I don’t have a spot where I play all the time.”
Like many young people his age, he also dreams of sharing scenes with great artists and going far in his music career.
“I want to see myself at the top, sing on large stages and, in the end, build an empire. I want to tour the world, like yeah, I wanna see myself being a celebrity one day. I want to take this music to the next level.”
His advice for young people is:
“You have to know what you want, not what your family wants.
“You must chase your dreams. As long as you tell yourselves that you will achieve what you want, I assure you that you will.
“Whether you are from a poor or wealthy family, you can succeed in life.
“The only thing you need to do is stand up with your own feet and start running after your dreams.”
