LAURA M Foundation recently launched a “Nurture a boy child” campaign. This is an effort to encourage the community to also focus on boys.

According to Laura Makhafola, founder of the foundation, boys are intimidated at school due to poor hygiene.

“Because their parents can’t afford basic toiletries hence the initiative of a boys hygiene drive to donate toiletries on a monthly basis to disadvantaged boy children.

“We all know that there’s a lot of sanitary drives for a girl child, but no one is doing it for a boy child. A bochildild is neglected at home and in school.

” Nurture a boy child in the same way you would raise and nurture a girl child,” Makhafola said.

Makhafola is a life coach and NLP practitioner, male advocate and author of a book titled ‘Through Hell But Not Consumed‘.

Born in Alexandra, she grew up in Koedoespoort in the province of Mpumalanga.

In 2018, she started a movement called ‘Black Men Are You Ok‘ where she hosted virtual meetings with men who opened up about their childhood trauma, emotional wounds and life challenges.

And in the process, she provides them with free psychological assistance through life coaching.

She increased her footprint by opening an NPO called ‘LAURAM Foundation’ in 2021 where she teamed up with three other members; Dr Bongani Mthembu, Itumeleng Mzimba, Bridget Majuta and a team of 30 life coaches, two Psychologists, two lawyers and a social worker.

It was to help men and boys heal and have better visions of themselves in order to reduce gender-based violence perpetrated by men because of their emotional injuries.
