About 6 learners were injured during the crash between two taxi quantums that had transported the learners to Malamulele Magistrate’s Court.

According to eyes witnesses, the taxis crashed as they reached the headman’s place in Gandlanani village, Malamulele.

An ambulance took them to Malamulele Hospital.

It’s said the learners sustained broken arms and legs in the accident.

One of the drivers was apparently asked by learners not to speed.

” The brakes failed as the taxi was on high speed and he crashed to the other taxi as the result,” said one of the learners.

However, some villagers suspect witchcraft.

The case was postponed to the 09th of May 2023  for legal aid representation.

According  to Sergeant Busisiwe Khuzwayo, Malamulele police spokesperson, Chauke also faces charge of assault with intent to cause grevious bodily harm.

“Chauke allegedly stabbed his ex-lover, a 22-years-old Ntshuxeko Maluleke, a grade 12 leaner at Nhlaluko Secondary School at Gandlanani village on the 20th of April 2023 where she was critically injured and admitted in hospital for medical attention,” said Khuzwayo.

Khuzwayo said the suspect had allegedly disappeared to the bushes and to different relatives following the incidents.

“It is further alleged that on the 24th of April 2023 at night, members of Saselamani SAPS contacted Malamulele SAPS and informed them about an African male, Chauke who was brought in by his relatives alleging that he was wanted by Malamulele Saps on the case of Assault GBH and Attempted murder of his ex-lover, Ntshuxeko.

“The members indeed confirmed such information and rushed to Saselamani SAPS where they found the suspect in the holding cell,” she said.

On Monday , Hlaluko High School learners led by community members, marched to Malamulele Police station and burnt tyres.

Their noise forced the police to go search a house in Jerome where Chauke was believed to have hidden. However, nobody was found in the house.

This morning, the learners and the community of Gandlanani in Malamulele were transported for free by all the local taxis to the court to oppose bail against the suspect.

According to Khuzwayo, on the 24th of March, Chauke allegedly first stabbed her with a beer bottle before he ran away. The two have a child together.

According to eye witnesses, he sucked her blood as he continuously stabbed her in the face and body.

Angry residents torched Chauke’s home and that of his aunt, the incidents that were widely blamed.
