An Alexandra man, Evans Hlangwane who allegedly killed his two sons, has committed suicide. He first attempted to take his life and this time he is dead.

According to Alex FM journalist, Malesela Mangena, the news was confirmed  by Alex Police station commander, Brigadier Lindiwe Magudulela

” We arrested the man and linked him to the death of his two kids. He is currently under police guard in Edenvale Hospital,” Magudulela told  told Alex Reporter then .

Hlangwane allegedly killed his two children and tried to kill himself before. But this time he committed suicide using a sheet in his ward.

On 1 March 2023, it is alleged that he poisoned Thato (13) and Lesego (6) and  Boitumelo (9) with a rat poison. Boitumelo has survived but is still hospitalized.

He allegedly took the kids from Ikage Primary school to his house at 4th Avenue.

Scrolla.Africa visited Mfolo at her home, in Alexandra’s River Park section, where she is mourning Thato and Lesego and eagerly waiting for Boitumelo to be discharged from the hospital.

She said that a day before the children died, her ex-boyfriend came with a brown envelope full of pictures of the children. “I was shocked to see that.”

“But, because we haven’t been together for almost two years, I thought bringing the photos was a way for him to finally accept that we are not together.”

She said the following day, her ex went to fetch the children from classes and took them to his place, where he prepared food which was allegedly laced with deadly rat poison. “He forced all three children to eat the poisoned food and told them to sleep,” Mfolo claimed.

“He also ate the food in an attempt to kill himself,” she alleged. “But he survived.”

Mfolo said it was unusual for the man to take the children to his house.

Around 10 pm on Tuesday, her ex switched his phone off, she said, and she tried to call him to bring the children so that she could prepare them for school the following day.

On Wednesday, Naledi said she received a call from the Alexandra local clinic and was informed that two of her children had died while one had been admitted to Edenvale Hospital.

“I found his family at the clinic,” she said.

“When I asked him why he had to kill my children, he tried to put the blame on the place where he bought the food.”

Mfolo said her children loved each other, walked to school together, shared meals and were always happy protecting each other.

“I will miss them,” she said.

Mfolo reflected on the day she was assaulted in July 2021.

She said the man went looting alone after she refused to join him, and later returned home with a stolen bathroom sink.

“When I asked him to stop, he became aggressive. He told me I was good for nothing as I wouldn’t even join the people who were getting goods for free,” she said.

She alleged he also looted a trailer, disposable nappies, alcohol, and other items.

“He didn’t even think of bringing bread for his kids.

Naledi wrote on her Facebook wall following the passing of her two sons.

“It feels like a dream. I can’t even cry, I just can’t believe that my kids are really gone 💔.God please give me strength.

“Police are failing me. I haven’t seen my kids’ remains and no case opened 😭😭😭😭 .

“Wherever they are, they are in a mortuary somewhere wearing school uniform.

“How can a man be this ruthless. How can a father kill his own kids? I’m so hurt, I can’t even express my emotions. All I can say is RIP to my sons.

“The hug I got from them when they were going to school, was actually a goodbye hug, yet I didn’t understand…. o long my sons, I’ll forever love you. From your mother.”

The family said they would accept any help as they prepare for the funeral. Please call 0739673164, should you wish to help the family.
