Ntomb’ Yomsuthu is a new, up-and-coming Maskandi muso from Kwa-Nongoma, Engolotsha.

Born Bonginkosi Zulu, “Ntomb’Yomsuthu” has been singing cultural music in isiZulu since he was still a young cattleman.

When he came to Johannesburg around 2010 to seek employment, he tried his hand in music but did not record professionally.

He used to work in a construction as a daka boy.

In 2021 he met another young upcoming musician Ayanda “Khehla” Thwala with whom he recorded a single, called “Libi Lelizwe”, which will be included in his upcoming full album to be released mid-August.

Ntomb ‘Yomsuthu resides at the Madala Hostel in Alexandra.

He grew up to be a musician when he was still a school boy.

He says,” I used to sing iscathamiya at school, and church and danced with my peers back home.”

When he arrived in Johannesburg in 2009 he continued his singing.

He said that even when he wanted to stop, there were situations that kept him going.

While working for Wendy Line from 2010 to 2016, he even released an album with his brother, Singa at Nkandla.

“From 2016-2018 I was unemployed until 2019 November, I got a job at Khaya Fasadi Construction where I am currently working now,” says the father of three boys.

His hit single, Ematekisini, is from Ntomb’ Yomsuthu’s upcoming album, and was released on July 25, 2022.

The song talks about the challenges taxi drivers go through every day caused by their owners and passengers.

“The taxi drivers work extremely long hours every day. They wake up early and return home very late.

“Often it means leaving their families, children early in the morning while they are still sleeping, and return home late at night long after their kids have gone to bed.

“It means there is little time to see their them grow, or spend quality time with their families,” said the muso.

Bonginkosi said that on the road, taxi drivers not only face the dangers as they drive passengers to their destination.

But they have to make sure they satisfy the passengers too.

The song is written and produced by Ntombi’ Yomsuthu and Isaac Ice Mangena.

It was recorded and engineered by Dee-R @Amabunjwa Records.

The song features some of the experienced instrumentalists: Madoda Dog’zin Ntshingila (Bass guitar), Jay Jay Mbuthuma (Keyboard), Senzo Hlombe & Sheshisa Mvelase(Lead Guitar) Mthiwentombi Nxumalo (Concertina).
