Jabulile Angel Baloyi (16) is a grade 11 learner at Noordwyk Secondary School.

The Miss Teen Glam South Africa  competition has 49 teen girls which makes the competition tough. However, she is determined and optimistic about winning the title.

Angel told Mashamba Media that she opted for this route to gain confidence and share her story.

In addition, she aims at helping other girls deal with any type of abuse.

“Growing up, I always wondered how the girls in the beauty contest can have such confidence,” she says.

Angel may seem young, but as she grew up, she faced many challenges.

As a result ,her confidence diminished because she had been the victim of a great deal of abuse.

However, she remained unshaken and pressed on.

“I like the way my mind is structured. I learnt alot from owning my life and taking decisions that will make me happy.

“I’m not a person who gives up easily. I know that no one can change my life more than myself.

“What I want, starts with me taking a step. My motto is ‘You are not the main character in everyone’s story, but you are in your own’.”

But she says she fell in love with beauty contest after observing and conducting massive research on the subject.

“On second thought, I realized that was what I wanted to do.

“It gives me the opportunity to raise awareness and express my convictions.”

She says she will use the platform to help others so that they will not experience what she has been through, saying that it will bring her joy.

“Personally, I’m a person who finds joy in seeing people happy, achieving their goals and reaching their full potential.

“I believe in uBuntu as helping others is a norm for me. My goal is to inspire the youth, particularly young girls, to take responsibility for their future and, ultimately, to make their dreams come true.

“This will help many young girls learn how to aim for the stars.”

Angel has a sanitary pad drive to help young girls.

She says this is to enable them to keep going to school even if they are in their periods.

“I know that it is stressful to not have a pad , even worse when it is school days.

“I kindly request people to donate pads so that we can help the disadvantaged young girls.

“The closing date for the collection of pads is 25th of September. We will be donating those pads between October 1st and October 8th,” she said.

She sees herself as the owner of a women’s organization where she will help girls feel better after having suffered all kinds of violence.

“Girls end up in situations they never prepare for because of desperation.

“With that being said, my advice is that girls should learn to love themselves.

“Take care of yourself and act the way you want others to see you.

“Perseverance and persistence is important through your journey in life.

“If you learn this no one can take advantage of you.”
