Tiyiselani Trust Nkomukomu, was born and raised in Mdabula, Malamulele, Limpopo province.

She is now 20 years old, but without identification or a birth certificate. She now feels like a foreigner in her native land.

She wrote matric and passed with a Bachelor after she was only allowed to write through an affidavit.

Her issue has been with the home affairs department since 2017, but she has been sent from pillar to post.

She told Mashamba Media that she intended to study teaching at the University of Venda.

“But the lack of identification restricted me and delayed everything in me. There’s nothing I can do,” says Tiyiselani, whose 6 family members are documented.

Former Jacaranda FM journalist and community activist, Bishop Baloyi, was concerned that Tiyiselani’s dream of continuing her studies had been delayed due to “incompetent department”.

He said her freedom and right to access to basic needs was destroyed and that her dream hangs in the balance .

“Her prospect of furthering studies is now doomed .For all these years, she has been visiting the home affairs offices in Malamulele and Thohoyandou, but she was sent from pillar to post,” Baloyi said.

A spokesperson for home affairs, Siyabulela Qoza, did not answer our call or our WhatsApp messages at the time of going to press.

Tiyiselani, a brilliant woman from a disadvantaged family, is now confused and desperate; she only needs immediate solution as she is the only hooe for her family to take them from poverty.
