Residents live with kak

Walking around the Marlboro Transit Camp is only a nightmare!

The current situation in the area, located beside the Sandton SPCA in Marlboro, is a real hell.

The blocked sewage was apparently reported to authorities for days, but has been ignored, resulting in a hazardous smell.

The area, under the DA, is occupied by blacks who believe their councillor only cares for the whites .

“We reported this matter from last week Thursday, but no one is willing to help us.

“Joburg water has just given us a reference number, but it never come to unblock the drain,” said a source.

The odour of the kak which flooded the houses has now worsened.

“We are living with kids. Can’t they think about our kids’ health?

“Alex Reporter, you are our last hope because we reported this matter to our councillor who said she is on it. Till now there is no action,” fumes a dweller.

When contacted for comment, Lori Coogan, the ward 109 councillor said she knew about the case.

“It has been logged, and escalated with JW (Johannesburg Water). I am sure it will be attended to shortly.”

When we reminded Coogan that she was the solution to the problem, she said: ” Yes I know. The depot manager did forward it to the sewer department.”

Before Coogan was voted a councillor, this is what she promised: “I am committed to continue working with the communities to facilitate service delivery, assist the vulnerable, work on practical solutions to urgent issues, clean the environment, continue expediting renovation and securing of various derelict community and sports centres.”

However, others believe that such promises are endless noise made by many candidates before they are elected.

People in areas like Maponyane Village, Silver Town and Setjwetla where Coogan is a ward councillor, accused her of not listening to their flights.

In an article that we wrote recently, 109 EFF leader Patricia Mofokeng said the councillor was nowhere to be found.

“The community tried to contact her many times, without success.

“I suspect she is anti-black as she has never had the means to meet her own constituency, ” Mofokeng said.
