An Alex residents who asked to remain anonymous said that for the past two years, they have been begging their leaders to unblock the blocked drain.

But all their requests seem to have fallen into deaf ears.

Residents at 98-13th Avenue, Alexandra said that the smelly water would put them and their children’s health at risk.

“We have a blocked drain for over 2 years. It has caused potholes, made it difficult for our kids to play.

“It is not hygienic and safe. We reported the issue for the past 2 years and it is still not fixed.

“We also reported it to our councillor Floyd, but he just took pictures and left.

“As the community, we have given up because we did all we could to resolve the issue, but with no help.

“So we are asking if you could help connect us to the right people and expose the councillors who don’t deliver to the community,” begged our mole.

Floyd Ngwenya, ward 107 councillor, told Mashamba Media that he knew about the extended challenge.

“Yes, I’m aware of the issue. I reported it nine months ago when I became the councillor.

” That is one of my biggest issues in the ward. I even called the MMC’s office three months ago. The officials came to check and discovered that the complainant has built on top of the drainage system. I even reported to the Regional Director I’m meeting the RD tomorrow,” said Ngwenya, adding that it was a another case when it rained.
