Portia Modise Foundation, as part of its community outreach program, has partnered with SPAR to donate sanitary pads in schools.

Former Banyana Banyana captain Modise distributed the sanitary pads at Donaldson Community School, Tlhatlogang Secondary School, and Thubelihle High School, where she spoke to the girls about the importance of hygiene, particularly during menstruation.

She said as women in the country continue to face challenges, it was upon them to unlock greater resources for the young girls not to ever miss school due to lack of sanitary pads.

“I am focusing my work and efforts in landing a helping hand by supporting and equipping women in with necessary tools ranging from hygiene products, sporting equipment, sporting gear, and conducting motivational talks to inspire the next generation of women,” said Modise.

The foundation aims to uplift communities by empowering women, particularly young girls through life skills by promoting education, hygiene, physical activity, and social integration.

SPAR South Rand Sponsorship Controller, Cornel Steyn said SPAR felt strongly that each girl has a right to an education.

“Therefore, we have partnered with the Portia Modise Foundation to distribute sanitary pads to those who need it most.

“This partnership will help keep our girls in school and give them an equal opportunity to compete and lead a full life.

“Thank you to everyone who entered the 2021 SPAR Women’s Virtual Challenge and contributed to the SPAR Petal’s project, your contribution is making a difference in these girls’ lives.

“Portia Modise’s message is powerful, and it is a tool that each of the girls can use to build a bright future. We are honored to have been part of this community outreach program,” Steyn said.

Modise said she was focusing her work and efforts in landing a helping hand by supporting and equipping women with the necessary tools.
