Rodney, the father of one, was shot and killed alongside Doctor Nkuna (40) when an unknown thug shot at five patrollers in the wee hours of 29 April in Setjwetla informal settlement, Alexandra North of Johannesburg.

“Rodney loved jokes and loved laughing,” said Makwimbila.

He said the killer should ask for forgiveness from God. “God will forgive him. But nobody is allowed to take a person’s life and make it theirs. What that person is doing ( killing people) must come to an end.

“He must surrender himself to the cops,” said the father of six children, adding that Rodney was his third child.

He said his son was working but didn’t know where.

Three patrollers were injured and hospitalized. Two of them were discharged, while one was fighting for his life.

The EFF PR councillor, Patricia Mofokeng told Alex Reporter that the third victim was in a critical state.

Hlulani Nkuna (24), Doctor’s younger brother, thanked the community members, especially the patrollers, for their support.

“What happened tore our family to pieces. However, we will cry looking to God. I wish to thank the community for coming to comfort us,” said the emotional Hlulani.

Doctor was unemployed but was renting 4 rooms, according to Hlulani.

The Chief of Alex Patrollers, King Tsonga said, “When he shot them, they were busy doing stop-and-research.

“He only targeted the patrollers,” said King Tsonga adding the suspect, who was not hiding himself, was chubby and white-skinned, but it was impossible to catch him as it was during Loadshedding.

” Even if you kill us or do whatever, we are not gonna stop. We are going forward and we will fight crime as much as we can until we win,” he said.

Asked if the community suspected the man known as ‘School Bag’ to have killed the two, Michael Ngobeni, a community leader in Setjwetla said, ” School Bag was not one person; it’s a violent gang which uses a name school bag.”

It is said a person or persons known as School Bad killed and raped many people around Alex, especially in Setjwetla.
