A 34-YEAR-OLD SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR POSSESSION OF AN UNLICENSED FIREARM IN MASHATE VILLAGE

A Joint efforts to fight violent crime through the removal of firearms from the street in the Mahwelereng policing precinct led to the arrest of a male suspect when he was caught in possession of an unlicensed firearm, on Friday, 26 April 2024.

The police received information from the complainant that his brother was assaulted by a group of people outside Mogalakwena Beach Club in Moshate village,and he informed the police that he then pulled out a firearm and fired a shot.

According to Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the police requested to see the firearm used by the complainant.

“A preliminary investigation revealed that the firearm used by the complainant doesn’t correspond with the license serial number, and expired on 01 September 2014.

“The suspect was arrested and detained on Friday, 26 April 2024, for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and will appear before Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Monday 29, April 2024.

“Police investigations continue,” said Mashaba.
