This morning a police van was involved in an accident with a mini bus taxi at 13th Avenue and Corner Vincent Tshabalala Road (London).

It is understood that the police officer ran through the traffic lights colliding with the speeding taxi.

Sources within the police alleged the taxi driver didnt have a valid driver’s licence. He was immediately arrested.

The taxi was not carrying passengers and the police van had two officers.

According to Alex Police spokesperson Sergeant Mbatha, the officers were from night shift when  the incident occurred.

“The van had just dropped other officers when the accident occurred,”said Mbatha.

A security officer who was going for dayshift said the accident saved him.

“I had just come out of the yard on my way to work  when I saw three  suspecious guys standing on the corner and looked at me.

“I suppose they were about to rob me. But the accident was a blessing in disguise,”said the 24/7 Security guard.

The guard who lives at 13th Ruth, a crime hotspot, said he was robbed twice at gun point last year by the  thugs.
