Lerato’s hand-made accessories became the kasi topic

By Mr Lee Tonic

At 25, Lerato Moko has already become a subject of conversation.

When people don’t talk about her attractive designs , they are bound to talk about buying these magnificent handmade accessories.

Based in Kaalfontein , Midrand, Lerato co-owns Moko Design House located at the Kasi Colab shop UG61 Mall of Thembisa. This company was established in 2014.

Lerato says she and her brother designs earrings, bracelets, waist beads and necklaces from the scratch.

“What sets my work apart is that the accessories are handmade.

“So when customers get them , they still have my mark on them and when they wear them ,they feel represented and less alone.

“I am very much into activism so my work is very fulfilling, hence every pair I make has a story to tell , a mood to describe and community to represent,” the gorgeous woman tells Alex Reporter.

The dreamer sees herself selling accessories at bigger stores, mostly abroad.

” We want clients to get a feel of who we are and what we are about in South Africa.”

She concluded by offering a simple yet brilliant piece of advice to young people:

“I would advice young people to start where they are and with what they have .

“The first pairs of earrings I made were made of bottle caps and people appreciated the creativity and bought them .

“After that I used the money to stock beads and other material I needed.”
