The Tzaneen SAPS, in conjunction with the South African National Defence Force, successfully rescued 54-year-old Isaac Rahlane in the Letaba River, where he was stuck for days.

Sergeant Ramogondo sustained injuries whilst attempting to rescue Rahlane.

Sergeant Maurice Nkhwashu said that the concerted effort and constant communication led the SANDF Airforce helicopter to airlift the 54-year-old Rahlane from a makeshift island in the middle of the Letaba River opposite the Tzaneen- Johannesburg Taxi Rank.

“A member of the public, Titus Motene (36), while still attempting to rescue Rahlane, was also trapped by the trees, and was also flown out of the river.

“Both Rahlane, and Motene were transported by an ambulance to Van Belden hospital for medical evaluation,” added Sergeant Nkhwashu.
