Spokesperson for Activists, and Citizens Forum, Dennis Bloem, has called on president Ramaphosa and his government to immediately resign.

The former Congress of the People (Cope) spokesperson said parliament “must disband, and an interim government must be appointed”.

He said South Africa was in a crisis, both economically and politically.

Bloem argued that the devastating load shedding was the final nail in the already struggling economy.

“It is very clear that this government does not have a plan to address the energy crisis. Instead of addressing the energy crisis, the president opted for cadre deployment by creating a new useless ministry, with a minister, since he was appointed. He only visits Eskom plants and calls media briefings.

“We don’t think that this government understands the negative, devasting impact this load shedding has on the people of the country.

“Unemployment is rising by the day. Young people are getting restless. A time bomb is ticking, and the consequences will be felt for years.

“The cost of living is unaffordable. Millions of people are going to bed on an empty stomach. Young boys are turned into gangsters. Young girls are turned into mothers because of unemployment.

“Load shedding and water rations have become part of our daily lives in the country. Those who can afford to buy water will buy, and those who are unfortunate will be forced to drink dirty water. Some even share drinking water with animals.

“The country doesn’t need President Ramaphosa and his government. They have failed the people of South Afric. They must immediately go.”
