Ward 75 councillor Sannie Mavhona was one of the first people to respond to the fire that destroyed dozens of shacks at the Madala Hostel, leaving 166 families homeless.

Mavhona, a member of the ANC, has been widely criticized by members of her party and opposition parties who live in and around the hostel.

But she is not moved by criticism!

Mavhona told Alex Reporter that she was in Joburb when she heard bad news that her people needed her after the fire left them stranded.

“I had to drive back and made sure the affected families had food, blankets and temporarily housed in a crèche and a library.”

She also didn’t entertain criticisms that she was now visible because of the current election campaigns.

“So, are you saying that since their shacks burned down during the time for campaign, we should not come and help them?”

“If we ignore them, they will say the Councillor didn’t come; the MMC never came also. What must we do?”

She said that after helping the affected residents, she had to leave at 8pm and arrive home around 9pm.

“What else do they want us to do?”

When asked if she was running in the next local election on November 1, she replied, “Yes! Let me tell everyone in Alexandra.

“I am going to win that election and I have no doubt. But you have to know that people are not thankful when you do good for them. And they should know that service delivery is not about their homes.”

  1. Mxm this one is drunk. She’s using this election campaign to further stay in office without providing service delivery free and equally amongst the community. Keep the food parcels as you always do with your ANC friends we’ll show you in the elections.
