The name Makhanani Aluta Nukeri has recently become the endless subject of her peers in the village of Hamashau, Limpopo.

That comes after the 18-year-old was crowned Miss Mashau a few weeks back.

Aluta’s journey towards a model could be compared with a gravel road full of thorns! She went through intolerable suffering. She’s seen it all, from the orphanage to destitution.

She was raised by her maternal grandmother who assumed responsibility after her mother’s death in 2005.

When her mother passed away, Aluta was a year and seven months old.

”When my mother died, she left me with my elder brother. My grandmother was assisted by the little (money) that my father gave her,” said Aluta.

Her dad passed away later when she was seven.

Throughout elementary school, she wore clothes donated by her relatives . In high school, her grandmother paid for her transportation without the help of anybody.

When she was in grade 11, things worsened, because her grandmother became very ill; she was the one looking after Aluta.

“She was the breadwinner and the only parent I had left with. In March 2020 she lost her life, ” explained Aluta.

The candidates who ran for the crown with her were a group of outstanding and focused young women from the same village.

The victory boosted her confidence as she prepares for an exciting life.
