Two days in a row, fire destroyed more homes and a 30-year-old man perished in today’s fire

City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services Firefighters responded to a multiple shack fire incident reported in early hours of this morning at around 02h00 in Denver, Kya Sands.

On arrival, firefighters found multiple shacks engulfed in flames and started evacuating people in the area safely while conducting firefighting operations.

Robert Mulaudzi, spokesperson for
the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services said during search and rescue operation, firefighters recovered a body of a 30-year-old man.

“He succumbed to smoke inhalation and he was confirmed dead on the scene.

“No other injuries were reported during this fire incident and about 10 shacks, together with a motor vehicle,were completely destroyed.

“The cause of the fire incident is still a subject of investigations,” said Mulaudzi.

Mulaudzi said this fire incident follows a multiple shacks on fire incident which was reported yesterday in Kya Sands were about 30 Shacks were completely destroyed leaving about 60 people displaced with no injuries reported.

“Residents are encouraged to continue to exercise caution when using heating devices which might cause fire incidents at home not to leave them unattended while in use,” he said.
