The Malamulele police are investigating an inquest case concerning the untimely death of a toddler in Xigalo village on Friday, May 24th, 2024 at around 4:00 PM.

Police said they received a complaint about a child who fell inside a dustbin that contained water and rushed to the vicinity.

On arrival, the police found the lifeless body of a one-year and eight-month-old baby girl lying on the floor inside the house.

According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, preliminary investigations revealed that the brother of the deceased arrived at home around 15:00, and the mother was busy with other chores at that time.

“After a few minutes, the mother and other family members noticed that the toddler is nowhere to be found. They looked around and found the victim inside the dustbin that was full of water and pulled her outside while showing no signs of life.

“The EMS personnel were summoned to the scene and on arrival they declared the toddler dead,” said Ledwaba.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe is pleading with the parents and guardians of the children to always be vigilant and alert about their safety at all times.

Police investigations are continuing.
