Seven orphaned siblings from Maahlashi village in Limpopo were overjoyed after receiving basic food grocery donation from a kind-hearted woman.

The death of their mother in 2021 after a long illness caused their condition to worsen.

Since then, Kedibone Magabane (21) and her siblings Thabiso (17), Thabang (15), Karabo (13), Brighton (11), Kamogelo (10) and Gontse (7) have been surviving through handouts.

This week, philanthropist Rose Mohlala and her associates came to their rescue and donated food to the impoverished siblings whose village is situated near a mine-development town, known as the ‘first democratic platinum city’ outside Burgersfort.

Mohlala said they aided the destitute children after they heard about their condition.

Kedibone, the unemployed mother of two kids aged 6 and 2, is now the head of the family. The grade 10 dropout now takes care of her siblings and her kids through piece jobs.

She mentioned that she felt blessed, adding that the donation will help alleviate their pain and suffering.

She wants to apply for a foster care grant for her siblings and a child support grant for her two children.
But she is struggling to obtain an identity document.

“My two children don’t have birth certificates, even though I have their clinic cards with me. Officials tell me to bring my 2017 progress report results from my previous school every time I visit the home affairs offices.

“My relative, Beauty Magabane, is receiving a child support grant for Thabang, Karabo, Brighton, and Kamogelo,” she said.

While visiting the kids housed in a relative’s RDP, we discovered that there was no running water or electricity connection in the house.

The house was without furniture, including beds, blankets, clothes and the floor needs to be fixed.
