At a crazy height of 2,06 metres (7 foot, 1 inch) Thabelo Glen Madiba is the tallest man in Limpopo – and maybe South Africa.

The 29-year-old man from Miluwani in Thohoyandou causes a stir wherever he goes. His massive height has catapulted him to local celebrity status.

Madiba says he is very popular with women who employ tricks to get closer to him.

This causes problems with his girlfriend, Pfunzo Mukwevho, who at 1,5 metres (under five feet) is more than two feet shorter than him.

“I have a steady girlfriend, with an 11-month baby and when we are together in town it becomes messy.

“Girls come straight for me and demand that I take pictures with them.

“At first it caused a big rift between me and my girlfriend. But as time went on she came to understand that I am a public figure.

He says he deals with thousands of email proposals from women.

“I am not rude to them, but they do not give up and this has become part of my life,” he said.

Madiba, who is a bolt driver in Thohoyandou, says his family is generally very tall. His twin siblings Fulufhelo and Ndamulelo are 1,9 metres each.

“I am enjoying life to the fullest and I am not regretting having grown this tall.

“Sometimes clients call me and when I arrive, they tell me they just wanted to see me and this has led to the business booming,” he said.

Beside the perks of being tall, there are also challenges when it comes to clothing sizes that are hard to find
