Man shocks Alex community when he testified that he killed girlfriend in self defense

Roy Mphephu who is accused of murdering his girlfriend, Palesa Matlamela, has told court that he acted in self defence.

His bail hearing continues on Friday, February 05, in the Johannesburg Regional Magistrate Court.

According to reports, Palesa’s boyfriend, Mphephu allegedly assaulted Palesa at Alex Boulevard, 8th Avenue, on Sunday 4 September 2022.

Mphephu allegedly fatally assaulted Palesa and allegedly dropped her at Edenvale Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

He handed himself over to the Police few days after the incident.

Eunice described Mphephu as feared gangster in the community of Alexandra. She said he should not be granted bail, arguing that he would victimise victims.

“We are also afraid of him as a family”, Eunice said.

“Perpetrators of GBVF should know that communities are united against this pandemic. We will not be silenced,” Eunice said.
