A 17-year-old Thato Mashele, from Marulaneng village near Jane Furse in Limpopo is badly in need of smart phone.

It will help her with her homework and research.

The Grade 12 student at Mpilo High School is interested in becoming a Chartered Accountant (CA).

But her dream may not be fulfilled if she doesn’t get emergency help. She currently uses her friend’s phone to do her school research.

Thato leaves with her 55-year-old unemployed mom, Selina Mashele, who makes ends meet as a hawker.

The impoverished family survives on the child support, social grant of the 10 -year old girl, Lebogang, Thato’s younger sister.

Thato emphasized the urgent need for the smartphone.

“A smart phone is a must-have tool for learning. It will help me do my school work that includes research, using online e-books.

“My dream is to become a Charted Accountant, the expertise that is scarce in our country and the demand is high in the labor market.

“I want to be an icon on a global scale,” she said.

“I can’t even be part of an online chat group because I don’t have a phone. We live in the Fourth Industrial Revolution where eLearning is the way to go.

“I now use a friend’s phone and she is at some distance from my home. I appeal to the readers of the Alex Reporter to help me get a Smartphone.”

Her mother, Selina, said: “I don’t have any money to buy her a smartphone. We live a miserable life.

“I sell on the street to give my family a living. I hope that she will receive learning assistance and an education that will allow her to change the circumstances of her family.”

Selina describes Thato as a smart kid who enjoys her schoolwork.
