Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Public Safety, David Tembe, MMC for Economic Developments Nkuli Mbundu, Robert Mulaudzi spokesperson for EMS, ActionSA PR councillor Shadrack Mkhonto and members of the Disaster management recently toured Setjwetla.

The officials inspected the Jukskei River in an effort to prevent drowning when it was full.

The EMS festive season safety campaign was welcomed by Mkhonto.

He said education was vital, indicating that it came at the right time when residents were on the verge of experiencing the danger of the flooded Jukskei River.

“The Setjwetla residents are always at the risk of being swept by the river when it flooded, especially the residents who have erected their shacks at the Jukskei River banks.

” We have witnessed the unpleasant living conditions that the inhabitants of Setjwetla face on a daily basis.

“It is so sad living in those kinds of conditions, more especially when the president Cyril Ramaphosa promised these residents 1million houses in 2019 prior to the national elections when he came in Alex during Alex shutdown.

“Now he is the president, but he isn’t delivering on his biggest promise to our people,” said Mkhonto.

Mkhonto said the lack of houses in Alex has pushed people to capitalize on risky open lands such as the banks of the Jukskei River.

“This has caught the attention of disaster management to come and make awareness of such risks so that the residents are aware of the danger they are exposed to, including the danger to the lives of their children.

“I share the same sentiments as that of MMC Tembe when he said residents that have erected shacks at the river banks must be evicted and their structures be demolished in solving this problem.

“However, alternative accommodation must be provided to those who are South Africans.

“The reason why the structures must be demolished is because whenever the residents are relocated from this risky area, they give the structures to their cousins and that doesn’t solve the problem as we always address same problem every year.

“My inputs as the Alex mayor is that the structures along the Jukskei River banks must be demolished and the strong fence must be erected within the required meters between the river and the settlement.”

Mkhonto said this will ensure that residents were safe during flood season.

  1. It’s become apparent that he ANC led administration is failing to live to its mandate. The biggest challenge ever remaining is that the people we are trying to assist ate the very same people who continue to vote the ANC election after election thereby putting their own life into a very serious predicament.
In the final analysis they all perish together as fools.
It’s of cardinal importance create an awareness and educate them about the importance of their votes.
They are being exploited because of being ignorant, poor, ill-informed, illiterate and uneducated.

Political hygiene is necessary in that region.

It is important for ActionSA to engage with the arrogant ANC corrupt government and if moral persuasion fails then rolling mass action will be one of the many best solution. The aim is to demonstrate the seriousness of the matter and to show the voters of Alex that you really care for them not as a Mayor
but as ActionSA as a totality.. Ok !!
