Chaos erupted in River Park after Mme Selina, a vocal member of the Dudula Movement in Alexandra, was viciously attacked at her home on Monday afternoon — allegedly by a group of foreign nationals.
Selina had been conducting independent monitoring at local clinics, where she reportedly documented undocumented immigrants receiving free medical treatment — a move that may have made her a target. Her efforts were aimed at highlighting what the movement calls “medical looting” in public healthcare facilities at the expense of poor South Africans.
Following the brutal assault, Selina was rushed to Edenvale Hospital, where she remains under care. She has since called for urgent police protection, fearing for her life.
A case of assault has been opened at the Alexandra Police Station, while members of the Dudula Movement have vowed to help police hunt down the suspects and ensure justice is served.
“This is not just an attack on Selina — it’s an attack on every South African who dares to speak out,” one Dudula member said.
The incident has once again exposed the volatile tension between locals and undocumented foreigners in Alexandra, with calls growing louder for stronger immigration enforcement and accountability in public health access.
