The controversial call for the re-introduction of the death penalty into constitution, by ActionSA follows high rate of gender based violence cases, whereby women are raped or killed.

Speaking on Alex FM recently, the president of ActionSA Herman Mashaba said it was in the interest of justice and protection to “our women to introduce such law as a sanction to the referred cases”.

Mashaba said: “It can’t be right that domestic violence gets out of hand in our watch and we are powerless to put a strong sanction as a way to prohibit such acts of gender base violence or domestic violence in the case of rape and killings.

“Death penalty is an appropriate sanction for the murdering of human beings by human beings.

“As much as South African Human Rights Commission disputes that, it is also the valid point to state that those who have been proven guilty of murder by the court, have violated the human rights of the deceased.

“In the worst case, they can’t have the benefits of human rights while the violated such benefits of another human being.”

He said in the case of rape, it was the worst humiliation that victims of rape never recover from it for the rest of their lives.

“In such cases whereby all the evidence (including biological evidence) have been proven relevant against the suspect or perpetrator, the best possible sanction is the death penalty as a way of illustrating to citizens that raping is no go area.

“ActionSA calls for a firm hand in law in regard to the high rate of murder cases. Death penalty is in dire need here in South Africa in order to protect our citizens.”

  1. YES TO THE DEATH PENALTY

My suggestion is simple. Any premeditated murder case must be attended by 11 Judges who must be assisted by 2 advocates.

All 33 presiding officers must find the offender guilty to be invoke the death penalty.

Any mitigating circumstances life imprisonment with the possibility of parole.

Rapists life imprisonment and NO parole.

    Do you need more input?

  2. I agree that the death penalty be reinstated in South Africa as other countries have the death penalty so what’s stopping SA? A life for a life.

  3. We need the death penalty, as most murderers, rapists get out of jail in a few years. Eye for an eye. This might stop the high crime rate
