Alex woman survives two suicide attempts

By Jonk wa Mashamba info@alexreporter.co.za

A divorced mother of two boys, Laura Makhafola, has seen it all! She went through horrible experiences and the only solution that repeatedly dominated her mind was suicidal thoughts.

“I was depressed when I lost my job, my little boy was only 8 months old. I didn’t have money to support him and his brother.

“One day my older boy came back from school and there was no food at all.

“I made him ‘shambelele’ and he went to play after that.

“That was the day I orchestrated suicide. At night I took depression tablets, pain medication and sleeping pills,” Laura said.

She was rushed to the hospital and stayed there for two weeks .

“When I came back home the situation was still the same, and I tried again to take my life.

Laura Makhafola, one of the great minds from Alex.

“I feel blessed to be alive today because that situation passed and I’m living the best version of my life.”

Despite all the unprintable horrors she went through, she came up with a great idea and wrote a must-read book titled ‘Through Hell But Not Consumed’.

The book was published in November 2020 by Dinkgwete Publishers, the company owned by Hosea Ramphekwa.

Through Hell But Not Consumed

In the book, Laura encourages readers that all hardships were not permanent.

She says suicide is not the answer because it leaves those behind with heartache and pain. Find someone to talk to or consult a clinic or social workers to help you find a solution to your problem.

“I’m also available to those in need of my professional services as a life coach and NLP Practitioner.

“Trials and tribulations will always be there, however people shouldn’t give up because greater days lay ahead. Sometimes when you are facing insurmountable obstacles, you think you the only one but hearing different stories make you hang in there because if someone did, so can you.

“There’s a solution to every problem. As people we need to stop leaning on our own understanding and power, but seek help from God. We also need to get rid of negative mindset because the universe gives us who we are and what we constantly think.

“For example, if one thinks he/she is a failure, then they will never win in anything.”

Her book details the story of hope and a journey of resilience, which she wants people to know.

These are some of the things that happened to her and the book explores more:

In dismay, she hit another woman ‘ka stena’ to win a lover; In desperation, she opened her arms to take back an abusive lover; In divorce, she walked away from a good man; In disaster, she went through surgery that left her with one lung; In distress, she attempted suicide twice but life refused to be snuffed out;

In disclosure, she is letting the masses in on her life story via her book)
