ALEXANDRA – The family of 19-year-old Owethu Mnyamani, who was gunned down on 10th Avenue, Alexandra, has publicly distanced itself from a planned candlelight vigil organised by a group of teenagers.
The grieving family says they did not organise or approve the gathering, warning that if anything goes wrong during the event, they will not be held responsible.
The vigil is expected to take place at the exact spot where Owethu was shot dead on Sunday, with friends and young people hoping to honour his life.
As emotions continue to run high, the family has urged the community not to associate them with the planned event.
Meanwhile, Owethu’s killer remains on the run, with police yet to announce any arrests in the murder investigation.
The brutal killing has sent shockwaves through Alexandra, where residents continue to demand justice and an end to the violence claiming the lives of young people.
