A Pietermaritzburg community has been left in shock after a woman was arrested for allegedly setting her former boyfriend and his new partner on fire in a horrifying attack.
Police allege that Nelisiwe Zililo (36) targeted her ex-boyfriend, Mzomuhle Shezi (36), and his partner, Yoliswa Ngubane (33), at their home in France, Mpumelelo. The couple suffered devastating burn injuries and later died in hospital.
According to allegations presented in court, the suspect had threatened to burn the victims before the deadly incident. These allegations have not yet been tested in court, and Zililo has not yet entered a plea.
Zililo has appeared in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court, where she remains behind bars as her bail application continues. The matter has been postponed to 24 July 2026.
