Today, Ithuba began their housing roadshow in South of Johannesburg and met their first beneficiary, Edward Makolane (41), in Lenasia.

He had resided in an informal shack without any means of transportation to or from his house.

Makolane, who is confined to his wheelchair, found it difficult to live in a home that did not accommodate his disability or provide him with access to his own bathroom.

He conveyed an emotional feeling that this new beginning is significant to him. “Finally, my child can come home, knowing that I can provide. This safe space is very special.”

For the past decade, Thabo and Bellinha Dibodu, who are also beneficiaries, have been patiently waiting to receive an RDP house while taking care of their family from their two-bedroom shack in Sloville.

The area lacked either electricity or running water. Bellinha excitedly said that this house is heaven-sent. “ITHUBA came through for us because we were not going to be able to build ourselves a house anytime soon!”
